Zombie audio…

January 28, 2008 at 3:05 pm (Writing)

“That Ain’t a Mosey” has been included in Episode #41, a podcast from Library of the Living Dead. It’s a long cast (more than two hours); my story’s at 23:34. The link is below, since WordPress won’t let me embed the player for some reason.

I’m silly!

Or so they tell me. This nifty little illustration came down from the team putting together a silly fantasy and sci-fi anthology, which will feature my flash piece “A Royal Pain” and a micro called “Getting Lucky.” There’s still time to submit, and I encourage anyone interested to do so. Details may be found here…

Hitting the century mark…

January 17, 2008 at 6:52 pm (Rejections, Submissions, Writing)

Today I received my 100th rejection, this time from Clockwork Phoenix.

This was just about the last thing I’ve got to send their way, and I was hoping to make it in to the anthology, but most of the sting is gone. You just pack it up and send it elsewhere.  It’s been a difficult lesson, to be sure, but one I’m rather proud to have made. After all, you can’t get published if you don’t send it out. And if you send things out, you’re going to get rejected. This just shows I’m doing it…I be a writer!

Cheese graters, peelers and mixers! Oh, my!

January 10, 2008 at 1:36 pm (Acceptances, Published, Writing)

I’ve had a second acceptance for the anthology Slice, this one a gruesome little tale called “A Little Help in the Kitchen.” This is one of those stories that kind of makes me worry about myself. Keep in mind this is a splatterpunk collection, look at the title of this post and you might get an idea of the things that get done to the poor guy.

In other news, I’ve just learned “A Slice of Vengeance” has been selected for Gryphonwood’s 2007 Best Of anthology!

That’s three acceptances in a row…I’m probably due for like 15 rejections all at once now.

Short, silly, to the point!

January 9, 2008 at 4:22 am (Acceptances, Writing)

And accepted!

“A Royal Pain” has been accepted for inclusion in a silly fantasy themed anthology by Residential Aliens. This is my second flash acceptance (the other was “Getting Lucky” in 55 Words, also a silly fantasy).

I’m actually quite excited about this one. This is the kind of tale I enjoy (things like Pratchett or perhaps Xanth). And the good news is they’re still looking for submissions!

Here’s the guidelines:

  • What: Silly Fantasy Anthology
  • Word Count limit: 100 to 3000 words.
  • When: Submissions open December 1, 2007 and run till March 1, 2008
  • Where: Submit stories to SillyFantasy@gmail.com
  • How: RTF or Word Doc attachment, Type “SUB [Title]” in the subject line.
  • Who’s behind this: Crystalwizard & ResAliens (Sponsoring Zine: Residential Aliens – http://residentialaliens.blogspot.com )
  • Payment: 1 copy of the anthology for free. (Contributing authors can get more copies for the cost of printing and shipping)
  • What do we mean by silly fantasy? You silly person, have you never watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Make us fall off the chair and roll around on the floor, laughing.
  • Target audience age: 14 and up
  • Keep it PG 13 or cleaner
  • Stories, bad puns and other sorts of silliness will be happily considered.

My first reprint!

January 3, 2008 at 6:16 pm (Acceptances, Writing)

“A Slice of Vengeance” will see life in printed form in the anthology Slice, a collection of splatterpunk stories.

I know it’s not much of a “complete story,” but I’ve always liked this little tale. I can be quite inventive when I try, even if it is of a gruesome variety.

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2008 at 2:44 pm (Acceptances, Writing)

First of all, Happy New Year to all of you.

Secondly, happy new year to me! I opened my e-mail inbox when I woke up this morning (yes, I actually went to bed last night, you freaks) to find out that Flashing Swords has accepted “A Twist of the Knife.”

I had originally intended this one for an upcoming anthology by Ricasso Press called Through Blood and Iron, but liked the story so much I couldn’t resist sending it out rather than waiting another month or two. And I think this world I’ve created here will see more stories in the future.
